The Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. This statement is not offered as a substitute for Scripture, nor as a complete account of everything Scripture teaches. It exists as a basis of fellowship — so that we speak the same thing together.
The wording below is our own plain-language summary of each article, written to be readable at a glance. For the full official text, including the supporting Scripture references for every point, follow the link to the Assemblies of God at the bottom of this page.
Four of the sixteen are considered core doctrines because of the role they play in reaching the lost and building up the believer and the church: salvation, baptism in the Holy Spirit, divine healing, and the second coming of Christ. They are marked below.
The Scriptures Inspired
Both the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired by God. They are His revelation to humanity and serve as the infallible and authoritative rule for what we believe and how we live.
The One True God
There is one true God, eternally self-existent, Creator of heaven and earth and Redeemer of mankind, who has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God — born of a virgin, sinless in His life, working miracles, dying a substitutionary death, rising bodily from the dead, and exalted now at the right hand of God.
The Fall of Man
Humanity was created good and upright, but through willful disobedience fell into sin, bringing separation from God and physical and spiritual death.
The Salvation of Man
Our only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and the inward evidence of it is the witness of the Spirit; the outward evidence is a life of righteousness and true holiness.
The Ordinances of the Church
Two ordinances are practiced: baptism in water by immersion, declaring publicly that we have died with Christ and been raised to new life; and Holy Communion, remembering His suffering and death until He comes.
The Baptism in the Holy Spirit
All believers are entitled to and should earnestly seek the promise of the Father — the baptism in the Holy Spirit, which brings power for living, for service, and for effective witness.
The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is evidenced by the initial physical sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. This is distinct from the gift of tongues exercised in the life of the church.
Sanctification
Sanctification is an act of separation from what is evil and dedication to God. It is both a settled position in Christ and an ongoing work in the believer, as we yield to the Holy Spirit and grow in holiness.
The Church and Its Mission
The Church is the body of Christ and the dwelling place of God through the Spirit. Its mission is to seek and save the lost, to be a gathered body for worship, to disciple believers, and to demonstrate God's love to the world.
The Ministry
God calls and sets apart a divinely ordained ministry to lead the church in evangelizing the world, worshiping God, and building a body of believers into the image of His Son.
Divine Healing
Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and healing is the privilege of all believers. We are called to pray in faith and to trust God for the outcome.
The Blessed Hope
The resurrection of those who have died in Christ and the catching away of believers who are alive at His coming is the imminent and blessed hope of the church.
The Millennial Reign of Christ
The second coming of Christ includes His visible return to the earth with His saints to reign for a thousand years — a time of the salvation of Israel and of universal peace.
The Final Judgment
There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works, receiving everlasting punishment in the lake of fire.
The New Heavens and the New Earth
According to His promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
